When you’re ready to explore beyond Alpe Della Luna, a visit to Sansepolcro – the birthplace of Piero Della Francesca – should be on your list. This historic walled town is located outside of the usual tourist trail but offers a plethora of cultural experiences. Sansepolcro is famous for its excellent restaurants, osteria (wine bars), and cafes. The central square is a hub of activity, especially during the annual crossbow competition held every autumn. The town hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year, such as pasta, mushroom, and Chianina steak festivals.

The Museo Civico, which Aldus Huxley proclaimed to have “the most important painting in the world,” is a must-see for art lovers. The glass museum, the Avoca pharmacy museum, and a selection of cathedrals and churches are also worth exploring.
